Being written for engineers and technicians, the book may be used a teaching aid for environmentally oriented students and for some interested professionals attending seminars and training courses in the field of municipal economy.
The Reference Book is written and published with the financial aid of “ECOTECHPROM” SUE, a special-purpose municipal organization of Moscow that carry out the entire complex of urban waste management operations.
The book contains the information related to modern technologies, machinery and equipment for urban waste management in winter and in summer, including solid domestic waste (SDW) collection, transportation and processing, as well as the utilization of valuable substances and components contained in SDW.
The reference book takes into account the existing Russian governmental standards, specifications and guidelines, as well as the resolutions of the Moscow Government in the field of urban waste management. The book takes into account the fact that in recent years the fleet of private vehicles in Russia has grown considerably, resulting in heavier urban traffic. The authors analyze the present-day and expected changes in the composition and properties of solid domestic waste in large Russian cities.
The analysis of the technologies takes into account the following aspects: the protection of groundwater, soil and air against their pollution with solid domestic waste; the saving of natural resources through the utilization and/or production of energy from the organic substances contained in SDW and extraction of valuable fractions from SDW, including ferrous and non-ferrous metals in the form of scrap. Special attention is paid to the environmental problems related to the complex system for urban waste management. The goal of the book is to inform relevant specialists about some modern technologies, organization of activities, machinery and equipment for efficient urban waste management.
